Black Ribbon fizzles out, Hadi supporters vigilant

A group of PAS supporters have gathered in front of the PAS headquarters today in order to express support for their president Abdul Hadi Awang ahead of the crucial central committee meeting that is taking place there.

It was supposed to be a show of strength backing Hadi in response to a planned 'Black Ribbon' campaign gathering organised by 'Kembalikan Selangorku' (Return our Selangor).

The back ribbon campaign was supposed to see participants handing out black ribbons to PAS central committee members to urge PAS to help uphold the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor.

The event was cancelled at the eleventh hour last night due to "unavoidable reasons", said its organisers in a statement.

Nevertheless the pro-Hadi supporters are going ahead with their show of support.

About 70 of them parked themselves at the headquarters under the watchful eyes of PAS' Unit Amal members.

The pro-Hadi supporters believed the black ribbon campaigners would demand for Hadi to retract his public backing of embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who has already been sacked by PKR.

PAS' decision today will be crucial to determine whether Pakatan Rakyat as a coalition will remain and whether it can continue with a new state government in Selangor.

Currently, Khalid has insisted on remaining as an independent MB, backed by four PAS exco members.

PAS is the only Pakatan component that has not supported the move to replace Khalid with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail so far.
