Tired with Khalid, DAP greenlights MB change

DAP is set to give full support to "whoever" PKR proposes as the Selangor menteri besar, regardless of whether it is Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail or any other PKR leader, after losing patience with current MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Malaysiakini understands that Selangor DAP has come to a point where it is so frustrated with Khalid's leadership that it no longer distinguishes between choosing Wan Azizah or the other PKR leader mooted for the post, Azmin Ali.

This is a lifetime away from the resolute support that DAP's Selangor leaders have shown for Khalid since Pakatan Rakyat took over the state in 2008.

"You come to a point where you can't communicate with the MB anymore," a senior official of the Selangor DAP told Malaysiakini.

According to the DAP leader, Khalid has not been taking anyone's opinion and sees differing views as a problem.

"With him, it's either his way or the highway. It's almost like he's the only one who can think," the leader said, without mincing his words.

Dissatisfaction mounts

Over the past few months, dissatisfaction within the DAP leadership against Khalid has grown significantly.

Selangor DAP chairperson Tony Pua and deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo have criticised the state government's actions on water rationing and the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex).

While many have highlighted water rationing, the water restructuring deal with the federal government and the Kidex highway being approved as being DAP's main concerns with the MB, the party source said DAP's unhappiness also stems from doubts over Khalid's integrity.

The party is understood to be uncertain about Wan Azizah as MB, but it will throw its weight behind her nonetheless.

PKR has named Wan Azizah as its choice to replace Khalid. However, she is facing some opposition from PAS. DAP and PAS have 15 seats each, while PKR has 14 in the 56-seat state assembly.

According to the DAP source, the state needs a strong character to control the civil service in Selangor.

He said it had become "too emboldened" under Khalid's six-year reign as menteri besar.
