Liow leaves for Kiev tonight

The Transport Minister is heading to Kiev to negotiate safe access for Malaysian investigators at the MH17 crash site.
liow tiong laiSEPANG: Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai is headed to Kiev tonight to ensure safe passage for the Malaysian team to the MH17 crash site, which is under the control of Ukrainian insurgents.
“The Malaysian team arrived in Kiev early Saturday and the ministry wants to ensure safe passage to the site,” he said at a press conference earlier today at Sama-Sama Hotel.
When questioned about who was in possession of the aircraft’s black boxes, Liow said that all news regarding the black boxes has yet to be verified and needed to be double checked.
(There is confusion as to who has taken control of the black boxes especially after Russia said it did not receive it.)
Minister Hishamuddin Hussein, who was also present at the press conference, added that safe passage to the crash site was the main priority.
“It must be verified whether the plane was really brought down (by missiles), how it was brought down and who brought it down,” he said.
A special Malaysian disaster assistance and rescue team (Smart) consisting of 62 people was dispatched to Kiev yesterday night.
Smart team members will recover the remains of the passengers as well as any records they can obtain.
