The Home Ministry and government has today filed an appeal against Kuala Lumpur High Court decision yesterday ordered it to return the eight Christian religious CD's with the word `Allah' in its titles belonging to Jill Ireland.
This was confirmed by lawyer Annou Xavier (left), who is acting for Jill, who is a Melanau Christian.
“The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed the notice against the High Court decision to quash the Home Ministry's order to confiscate the CDs and ordered it to be returned,” he said in a text message.
Normally, the aggrieving party has 30 days to file a notice of appeal.
Yesterday, it was reported that KL High Court judge Justice Zaleha Yusof ordered the quashing of the Home Ministry's decision to seize the CDs and return them to Jill after six years.
Justice Zaleha ruled that the senior customs officer had acted illegally in withholding the CDs as such power to seize and detain is with the minister.
The CDs were brought in from Indonesia via the Low Cost Carrier Terminal in May 2008.
