Muslim eateries are prohibited from selling food to Muslims before 3pm, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom clarified today.
Speaking to reporters at the Putrajaya Hospital, Jamil said the directive was as such so that "we do not contribute to (Muslims) who are not fasting".
As to whether the ruling was compulsory for all states, Jamil (left) gave an affirmation.
"Each state has its own religious department, with its own enforcement powers. So, yes, the directive is for all states," he said.
Kedah state executive councillor Badrol Hisham Hashim had said that Muslim-owned food outlets in the state that operate before 3pm will have their business licences revoked.
In tandem with Badrol, Jamil said that all religious departments in the country would ensure that the directive is followed.
On a separate matter, Jamil said an imam from the Kelantan Islamic Religious Council (Maik) has been appointed to resolve the issue of two imam leading a congregation in Kelantan.
"We hope that with his appointment, the issue will be resolved," he said.
The incident at the Pondok Banggol Stok mosque was reportedly due to differing teachings, Malay dailySinar Harian reported yesterday.
One of the imam practices the Tarekat Tarjani, of which Jamil said: "The teaching is deviated."
