COVER UP FOR CRONIES?KL sinkhole - why no legal action against contractor?
KUCHING - The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) can take legal action against the contractor involved in the collapsed underground tunnel project in Kuala Lumpur if they were found negligent in the way they implemented the project.
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said this was because CIDB was the construction industry governing body and had the power to take such an action.
"If the collapse of the tunnel was due to their negligence, we will ask the CIDB to take action against the contractor," he told reporters after presenting Ramadan grants and donations for mosques and suraus in Semariang constituency here today.
Meanwhile, Fadillah said the ministry was prepared to offer its technical expertise to help the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) to investigate the cause of the collapse.
"I have instructed the Public Work Department director to visit the site and see how we can help DBKL in investigating the incident," he said.
Last Wednesday, the underground tunnel, which is under construction, collapsed when soil sank at the site at the four-corner traffic light intersection in Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur.
It was reported that the five-metre deep sinkhole occurred due to an underground pipe burst. – Bernama
