Bung's Hitler tweet wrong, says Najib

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has criticised Bung Moktar Radin over his controversial tweet on Adolf Hitler following Germany’s victory over Brazil in the World Cup semi-final.

"The comments made by Bung are unacceptable and wrong, and he will withdraw them," he said.

Najib (right) added that the BN Kinabatangan MP does not speak for Malaysia.

"Or for ordinary Malaysians, who understand Europe's tragic past, and respect its modern unity," he said in a brief statement.

"This should be a time of celebration for Germany, and we wish them all the best in the final," he added.

Meanwhile, in his latest Twitter posting Bung apologised, but in his usual manner that smacked of sarcasm.

"When Germany whacked Brazil, I unintentionally said something that hurt the feeling of the people in Germany.

"MY SINCEREST APOLOGY. LONG LIVE BUNG," he tweeted at around noon.

Yesterday, Bung courted controversy for the umpteenth time after tweeting: “Well done... bravo... long live Hitler” early yesterday morning following Germany’s 7-1 rout of hosts Brazil in the World Cup semi-final in Belo Horizonte.

Despite a barrage of criticism, Bung (left) yesterday defended his tweet, saying that he was not being serious are was merely praising Germany’s fighting spirit, which, according to him, was just like Hitler’s.

He even tweeted the image of a bra followed by the words ‘ZIL’ to a female journalist who queried him on the matter. Apart from that, he spent much time criticising those who derided him for the remark, including telling one Twitter user, “Maybe you have a mental problem”.

His tweet managed to put Malaysia in the international spotlight again, as international news organisations picked up the tweet and the German ambassador to Malaysia also criticised it.
