Azmin looks set to retain PKR No 2 post


The official PKR election results show Mohamed Azmin Ali as set to retain his position as the party’s deputy president, with his vote margin rising above his nearest rival, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

According to the PKR election committee, the latest official results from 195 party branches throughout Malaysia show the Gombak MP to have oibtained 21,066 votes, compared with Khalid’s 17,608 votes.

This puts Azmin 3,458 votes ahead.

The third candidate, Saiffuddin Nasution Ismail received a much lower 9,944 votes so far.

This was the first update on the contest in nearly two months. This result was announced by election chairperson Johari Abdul at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

For the four positions of vice-president, incumbents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Tian Chua, MPs for Lembah Pantai and Batu respectively, were in the lead with 27,031 and 20,480 votes respectively.

Candidates from Azmin’s camp Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and Seri Andalas assemblyperson Dr Xavier Jeyakumar have received 18,777 and 17,587 votes respectively.

PKR’s director of strategy and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli is trailing in fifth position with 17,461 votes. In the last result announced, Rafizi had the second highest number of votes.

In the contest to head the Youth wing, Selangor PKR’s Amiruddin Shari is in the lead with 4,107 votes, trailed by Selangor deputy speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who received 3,911 votes.
