Post-mortem done on prisoner who died of AIDS

A post-mortem is being carried out on R Kumarajah, who police said died of AIDs at the Kajang Prison on Monday.

The post-mortem began at noon today and it will take about three hours to be completed, PKR's human rights activist S Jayathas told Malaysiakini.

Jayathas, together with Lawyers for Liberty representative G Sivamalar, Kumarajah's family members, magistrate Abdul Jalil and ASP Suresh of the Kajang district police station were briefed on the procedure by Hospital Serdang head of forensics Dr Zuraidah.

He said in his earlier consultation with Zuraidah, he was informed that Kumarajah's stomach was bloated when he was found dead.

NONEKumarajah's mother, M Sooriakandhi (right) has made a police report challenging the nature of his death.

Sooriakandhi also made a plea to Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop in the lobby of Parliament yesterday, asking for an autopsy to be done on her son.

She is not happy with the report that he died of AIDs because Kumarajah was healthy when she visited him at the Kajang Prison last Tuesday.

Kumarajah, who was convicted of motorcycle theft in 2011, died of mysterious circumstances and the exact location of his death is not certain. He was due to be released in February.

Kajang OCPD Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab when contacted on Tuesday confirmed that Kumarajah had died from AIDS. He declined to make any further comment.
