Govt to table emergency motion on Israeli attacks

Prime Minister Najib says the attacks on Palestine were clearly inhuman and violated international laws.
PHNOM PENH: The government will table an emergency motion at the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow, to condemn Israeli attacks on the people of Palestine, Najib Tun Razak said today.
The prime minister said the motion would call on the Dewan Rakyat to adopt a resolution, among others:
  • To condemn in the strongest terms the attack by the Israeli military on Palestinian territory, resulting in the loss of civilian lives;
  • To urge the United Nations (UN) to adopt a resolution calling on Israel to immediately cease its military attacks on Palestine territory in Gaza, through a ceasefire;
  • To call on the UN General Assembly to hold a Special Emergency Session of the UN General Assembly under Resolution 377A(V), should the UN Security Council fail to carry out its responsibility;
  • To express the undivided support of Malaysians towards the struggle of Palestinians in creating an independent and sovereign Palestine state; and,
  • To take the decision of presenting the resolution to all legislative and parliamentary houses, especially the US Congress, British Parliament and European Union Parliament.
“To express the support and concern of the government and people of Malaysia on the issue, I have directed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz to table an emergency motion at the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, Nov 19, 2012,” said Najib.
The prime minister is here to attend the 21st Asean Summit Conference and other related summit conferences for three days, from today.
Israel had launched a new attack named, ‘Pillar of Defence’, on Palestinian territory at Gaza and so far, 40 people were killed, including Hamas leader Ahmed Jaberi, six children, a pregnant woman and a teacher with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), with more than 345 people injured.
Three Israeli citizens were also killed and 18 others injured as a result of counter attacks by Hamas.
Najib said the attacks were clearly inhuman and violated international laws, international humanitarian laws, UN Charter, and they were indeed, war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Fourth Convention on the protection of civilians in a war.
