Condo project: ‘Technical requirements met’

The Federal Territories and Selangor Minerals and Geosciences Department did not see a need to probe further details of a technical report filed by developer's consultants.
PETALING JAYA: The Federal Territories and Selangor Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG) said that the developer involved in the Batu Caves condominium project had met the technical requirements imposed by the agency.
JMG director Zakaria Mohamad said: “We only deal with the technical requirements of the project. As far as we are concerned, the conditions were met.”
Zakaria’s statement runs contrary to a report in The Sun on Tuesday. The report noted that JMG had informed the state government that developer Dolomite Industries Sdn Bhd had failed to comply with some of the conditions set.
The daily based the report on the minutes of a Selayang Municipal Council’s (MPS) meeting dated Nov 29, 2007.
Last month, the Selangor state government issued a temporary stop-work order on a condominium project slated to take place on a land adjacent to the iconic Sri Subramaniar Temple.
Barisan Nasional leaders had since accused the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government of approving the project and called for them to halt the project indefinitely.
However, Selangor executive councillor for local government Ronnie Liu hit back by showing documents that the project was approved in 2007 by the then BN state government.
Liu also said that Gerakan Senator A Kohillan Pillay, then a councillor for Selayang Municipal Council along with three other MIC members, gave the nod for the project.
Pressed for details, Zakaria said that it was best to get advice from the consultants hired by the developer on the matter.
He added that the developer’s documentations were processed at the MPS’ One Stop Centre and thus, many other agencies were aware of the matter such as the Public Works Department.
“At the end of the day, it was MPS which gave the approval,” said Zakaria.
As to whether he had probed further the developer’s reports bearing in mind they may have been bias, Zakaria said: “The consultants are professionals as they are registered with relevant agencies.”
